Hockey Career Before UND
Played for Shattuck St. Mary's. Also played on Canada's Team Wester at the World U-17 hockey tournament in 2005, which won the gold. Toews also earned MVP of the tournament. Shattuck's prep team won the 2005 Tier I U-18 National Championship. Toews led this team in scoring.

Hockey Career at UND
Played for Team Canada in 2005/06 and 2006/07 at the World Junior Hockey Championships. Team Canada won the gold both years. In the 2006/07 semi-final game against Team USA, Toews scored 3 goals in the shootout to help Team Canada defeat Team USA, 2-1.

Drafted by Chicago Blackhawks, first round, 3rd overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Signed with Chicago Blackhawks in the summer of 2007. Toews played with Team Canada, which won the gold medal, in the hockey World Championships in 2007.
